Today Faye has heaps of fun because instead of working with just one colour she
radically changed a kid’s bedroom into a Disney theme.
In fact, she launched Buzz Lightyear into “infinity and beyond”!
You can find all you need at leading hardware stores: Disney stencils,
paint products in Disney colour themes, instructions, brushes & rollers.
Faye first masked the adjoining walls, skirting boards and cornice with a low
tack masking tape, before applying a coat of Taubmans Prep Coat. She then used a
string and pencil to mark a semi-circle on the wall to form a half moon.
She then carefully used a brush to ‘cut-in’ (neatly paint the edges) the top
half of the wall with a dark blue acrylic paint (Taubmans/Disney “Infinity &
Beyond”), and completed the rest of the space with a roller. She repeated this
procedure with the white paint for the moon.
She applied two coats of each, and when dry, masked a strip 50mm wide across the
arc where the two colours meet. A good quality, low tack masking tape is used to
prevent paint bleed, and ensure that the tape will not peel off the fresh paint.
She used a silver coloured acrylic paint (Taubmans/Disney “Silver Spaceship“) to
form a ‘halo’ around the white moon.
OK now for the really fun part. The Disney stencils allow you to create a Milky
Way of stars and planets and spaceships on the “infinity and beyond” blue sky.
Pretty cool, huh?
Faye showed how you can use white, silver metallic or glow in the dark paint,
holding the stencil to the wall while dabbing in the colour.
The transformation is literally out of this world! Get the kids to help with
stencilling the motifs.
There are heaps of great Taubmans/Disney themes to choose from - all you’ve got
to do is look for them at leading hardware outlets.
