Kev reckons this is the simplest project of all time – three pieces of glass
glued together to make a stylish, durable coffee table.
Step 1: Buy your glass from your local glass supplier. There are several styles
of edges available – such as bevels, pencil rounds, and square polished. The
only thing to remember is that the edges that join must be square.
Step 2: Make a jig to hold the legs upright for assembly. You can use scrap
material, but it must hold the legs firmly.
Step 3: Clean up the joining surfaces with acetone, then mask around the tops of
the legs, and the underside of the top with tape. You’ll need to carefully and
accurately align the top before you mask it.
Step 4: Mix the Araldite Ultra Clear, spread onto both surfaces, and press them
together. You’ll need to work quickly, as the working time for this glue is only
a few minutes. Mix more than you need because there won’t be time to mix more if
you run out part way.
Ultra Clear is ideal because it dries so clear that you won’t see it. It also
bonds glass very well. Carefully scrape excess glue off, remove the masking tape
and clean up with acetone.
Step 5: Wait until the glue has fully cured (16 hours) before cleaning with
glass cleaner, moving it to the lounge room and loading it with coffee and
Selleys products are available at all good hardware stores.
