This compact bench is easy to make, using off-the-shelf brackets, structural-grade pine, plywood and pegboard. The Mitreplan has all the information you need, including a shopping list and step-by-step instructions.

Step 1: Cut all the parts to length. Patrick did it the hard way with a panel saw, but a power mitre saw will make short work of it.

Step 2: Fasten the parts together using tri-corner brackets and glue. This method is fast and very strong.

Step 3: Cut the plywood shelves to size, and cut notches in the corners that fit between the legs. Glue and screw them to the rails.

Step 4: Screw the pegboard and top shelf to the back legs.

Wait for the glue to completely dry before you start using your new bench.

tip Patrick ’s Tip:
Look for pegboard hooks and brackets at the hardware store. They’re the easiest way to hang up your tools.
